Welcome to Northlake Baptist Church

Welcome!

We are a multi-racial congregation, united in our love for the Lord Jesus Christ and in our desire to lead others to faith in Him.

We welcome visitors and try to make them feel at home.

We are a conservative Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church.

We have a style of worship that blends the great hymns with newer praise choruses.

We offer Sunday School classes for every age from nursery infants to the golden years.

We seek to help each believer to deepen his or her relationship with the Lord so that each person grows to be a reflection of Jesus.

We believe in spreading the news of salvation through Jesus in cooperation with other churches. We are affiliated with the Dallas Baptist Association, the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and the Southern Baptist Convention. We host a separate Hispanic Church in our facilities, and we work with international refugees who have been placed here in Dallas. Our Mission offerings help tell about Jesus locally, nationally, and around the world.

Mission Statement

Jesus gave two primary commands that are called the Great Commission and the Great Commandment (See Scriptures below.) We believe that a Great Commitment to the Great Commission and the Great Commandment makes a Great Church. Consequently, our mission statement which summarizes the Great Commission and the Great Command is:

Making disciples through loving God and loving others

Our focus is to make this mission statement the heart beat of our church. We are not interested in having cute statements. We are very excited about having a Biblical direction that guides all of what we do here at Northlake.

The following is a very brief explanation of what the Mission Statement Means.

Making Disciples:

In one word, making disciples means change. Change comes by trusting Jesus as Savior. Change continues as people apply the transformational truths of the Word of God to their lives. Making disciples is assisting people to become what Jesus wants them to be.

Loving God:

Loving God is summarized by the words passionate obedience. Jesus said "he that has my words and keeps them, he it is who loves me." So, obeying the Scripture is a way to express our love. However, the church in Ephesus, who really knew and applied the Word in relation to doctrine and false teaching, had a problem. Jesus said they left their first love. So, we try to develop disciples who love God with such passion that they want to obey Him.

Loving Others:

Meeting people's needs is a great way to understand what it means to love others. This can include any kind of need, but ultimately we seek to meet the deepest need which is a love relationship with God.

Summary:

Our purpose is to make disciples which we should want to do because we love God. If we love God we should make disciples because that is what He tells us to do. Loving God should overflow into loving others. Because we love others we should want the very best for them which means they need to enter and grow in a loving relationship with God. Consequently, we seek to express our love for others by helping them to become and grow as a disciple.

Scripture

    The Great Commission:

  • "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen Matthew 28:19-20 NIV

  • The Great Commandment: Jesus answered him, "The first of all the commandments is: ' Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ' You shall love your neighbor as yourself." There is no other commandment greater than these." Mark 12:29-31 NIV

Growth Expectations

We are a numerically small church with a big vision of what God is doing in our midst. We' re a loving and unified church that believes that God has brought us to a place where we are ready for significant growth. We are praying for and expecting God to produce in and through us the following types of growth:

  • Numerical Growth: This includes more people that are led to be a part of what God is doing here. This can include believers that move into our neighborhood or non-Christians that trust Jesus as Savior.

  • Spiritual Transformation: Numbers alone are insufficient. We look to see people transformed by the power of God changing them from the inside out.

  • Ministry Expansion: As more people attend here and are being transformed, God will change old ministries and add new ministries to accommodate and facilitate the growth and transformation.

  • Kingdom advance: We expect to help the kingdom of God advance outside of our walls. Consequently, we look to minister in ways that do not help our church but do advance the Kingdom.

Kingdom Work

We are Kingdom minded so we think about how to advance to kingdom and not just our church. Consequently, we do several things to help advance the Kingdom of God and assists others in making disciples.

  • Multiple Congregations: We have a separate Hispanic Church that meets in a part of our building and holds its own services.

  • Missions: We take up multiple offerings to support mission work throughout the year. This includes offerings for the cooperative program as well as needs in other churches around Dallas.

  • Refugee ministry: We help support work with international refugees who have been placed here in Dallas.

Character of Northlake

  • We are a conservative Bible believing and teaching Church.
  • We have a traditional blended style of worship.
  • We are mostly an older congregation but hope to add many younger families. We have Sunday School for all ages.
